Winner and a new Short Story coming up

The winner of the Scrapbook Trends Vacation Idea Book is:

Laurie Dagg-Labine!

Thanks for the comments...I am feeling the need for a serious vacation myself this week!

I will be posting a new mini kit on the site tomorrow--it is a project kit for making those sweet spool notes as seen in Cindy's gallery for July.  Each set comes with an alpha stamp set and enough material to make 5 large and 5 small note spools.  These are a lot of fun to give (and receive!).

Ouch! (but in a good way)

002
and on that note I ran 10 miles today.  I am gonna be so freaking sore tomorrow...but that is okay.
I have 2 more weeks to get ready for this, and so far, so good.  I might be slow, but I keep telling myself that is fine as long as I finish strong.

The husband made it back home this weekend so that is always nice.  Sometimes I think the homecomings are the best part of time apart.  Hunter is always so excited when it is 'daddy day' --like Christmas morning excited.  He nearly knocked M over when he ran to him at the airport this time...you'd think that M would be harder to sneak up on!  ;)  We are very happy he should be home for a few weeks before he's out the door again.

The vacation idea book is still up for grabs. (See post below)  Comments are open until Monday midnight for a chance to win it.  We'll draw on Tuesday and post the winner then.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

Sneak Peek KAWAII

Ughhhh!  Just so you guys know, I did not forget the sneak peek today...I was hoping that the mail guy, or the ups lady, or the fed ex guy might drop off some goodies today so that I could photograph them.  Unfortunately, like many other companies right now, I am waiting on CHA product to arrive.  So, just know that as soon as I can post photos I most definitely will!  :)
September's kit is all about bright, happy, fun!  It will feature new papers from the "Happy Place" line that Sassafras Lass released last month.  It is also gonna be packed with lots of super-cool Japanese goodies and the slick and shiny new THICKERS!  As usual, there will be unique vintage supplies and some great ribbons as well as Floyd.  :)
Happy Friday everyone...here's to a lovely weekend!

Monday Morning

Well, I STILL haven't started Breaking Dawn.  I think I will probably start tonight.  I have been reading a few other books like Go Ask Alice (depressing--uh, drugs are bad) and this one When You are Engulfed In Flames (funny in parts, but wish I'd gotten it on tape b/c his books are always better when he is reading them).  I also read this book, which was very inspiring and a good wake-up call for all mommies who want their kids to enjoy art.  I found it interesting that some of our best known children's book illustrators were not encouraged to pursue art.  Many, were encouraged by their parents but some were actually told they shouldn't and it makes me realize that that I need to encourage Hunter to draw something EVERYDAY...especially now that he's in the unbelievably cute creature drawing phase:

Bugs

I am also being inspired by this book.  I just got it at the craft store with one of those 40% off coupons and it is full of simple and inspiring ideas.  I have been so lacking in the scrapbooking department lately.  Maybe this will get me back into the groove!

Procrastinating the Vampire and other stuff, too

Well, I finally got my copy of Breaking Dawn yesterday (grrr...preorder)  but I have yet to sit down and read any of it.  I am not sure what it is, I mean, I am busy with all kinds of stuff like kits and yard work and the boy, but I have looked forward to that book for such a long time.  I think maybe I am procrastinating because I have seen some terrible reviews.  I just don't want it to be as bad as most everyone has said.
It also could be that I don't want it to be over as a story.  I know if there's money to be made then there will be more to the story, but the first three books captivated me and I guess I am trying to ration the last one.  Maybe I'll start it this evening...we'll see.  Have you guys read it yet?  What did you think?

I got a box of these little guys today:
Floyd
That is Floyd.  He's a wise guy and he's the main stamp for the September kit.  I love him.  He's been living in one of my art journals for a while and told me the last time I flipped through there that I'd better darn well make him into a stamp!

Titledaugkit
Speaking of kits, THANK YOU to everyone who ordered the August kitsWe only have 3 left!  I love the little suitcases that are in there...who am I kidding, I love everything that Paper Source makes!  It is probably a good thing that there isn't one in Virginia Beach!  Hey, I just noticed when I linked that suitcase they are all sold out at PS!  Hmmmm....like I said, we only have 3 2 left!  ETA:  All sold out!  Thanks so much! :)

I wanted to say thanks again to sweet Jeanne!  She sent us a big box of my favorite chocolate candy and a very special Webkinz pet of the month for the boy since we've been so down around here.  I still get short of breath when I think I hear Samson...forgetting he is gone because we're so used to him being here with us but we are getting better.

Hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday!

Hello August. Cool stuff is happening!

003
Ahh, a new month.  I am so busy the first week of each month with kits and orders and bills and so on that I normally don't take the time to acknowledge this newness. After last month, though, I am trying to make an effort to recognize each day's opportunities to work and play...and especially laugh and love.

This month I have a lot of work to do on the personal side of things.  At the beginning of summer I signed up to run a half marathon with my husband.  We (along with a whole bunch of our friends and M's co-workers) will be running to raise money and support for the Naval Special Warfare Foundation.  I have been running a good bit (for me, at least) trying to get ready.  My goal is to (a.) finish the race in a respectable amount of time (b.) raise at least 100 dollars and (c.)NOT trip, fall down or get trampled.  So, this month I have got to get in serious training mode to finish out my training plan so that I am ready for (a.) and (c.)  As for (b.), I have a plan...it involves you blog-readers and GIVEAWAYS--lots of cool giveaways.

The NSWF is private (non-military) non-profit organization that helps the families of our Special Warfare community.  I have seen them in action and they are amazing, caring, beyond generous, and truly concerned with making sure families have what they need in a time of crisis or tragedy.  If you are interested in their mission you can check out the link above and read all about what they do.

By signing up to run I committed to raising at least 100.00.  Now is the part where I tell you that I am horrible at asking people for money--even when it is for a good cause.  (I think it goes back to when I was in junior high and high school and we had to do fund raisers to put on dances and supplement our yearbook costs and stuff like that.  A kid can only sell so many chocolate bars and boxes of doughnuts before she loses it.)  So, in order to make me feel better :) about asking you to donate I have come up with a plan.  Once all of the donations are in NSWF will send each runner a list (unless you donate anonymously) of everyone who sponsored us with a donation.  This is so that we can see how much we raised and who we need to thank.  I decided that I would enter everyone's name who donates to sponsor me into a series of raffles so that I could give something back to you!

Here's how it works.  There will be at least 3 giveaways.  The first one is for this:
Finepix
That is right, a brand-new, never used (just taken out to photograph), Fuji Finepix Z10fd digital camera!  Yay!  This little guy has 7.2 MP, 3x Zoom, 2.5" LCD, face recognition...lots of cool features for infrared transfer and quick blogging mode.  For every dollar you donate here, your name goes in one time.  That means someone who donates 20 bucks gets 20 chances!  Now, here's the VERY IMPORTANT PART:  When you donate you must (MUST) put my name (Sara Berry :)) in the 'notes' section so that they know you are sponsoring me.  If you forget then they won't let me know you donated and I can't put your name in the raffle.  Easy-peesy, right?

Okay, to recap:  Go to this page, scroll down to the "Donate Online" button, click it and make your donation and be sure to put my name--Sara Berry--in the notes section, get entered into the raffle, possibly win a camera, amazing scrap goodies, and surprises...more prizes to be announced as the month goes on!

Oh, one more thing.  If you sponsor me with a donation and then you comment here with a link to your blog that shows where you are spreading the word about this raffle then I will double your entries!  Thanks so much for your help...it really is for a good cause.

If you have questions please email me at storykits at aol and I'll be happy to get back to you quickly!

Winners will be drawn on the day of the race--August 31st.

Breathing

Still lost around here with out my Samson.  It is a bit like being lost in a dream, walking around looking for something you know you won't find, and wanting so much to just touch it.  I know that it will be a long time before I get used to him not being here.  I just keep breathing.

Trying to keep busy and decided I needed to do another 'look" at August's kit:
Newsneak
This is the main kit--"Lost Luggage"--and here's the main kit stamp:

Thank you to all of my friends for your kindness and sweet comments and emails.  They really do mean so much to me.

Sorry the peek is just a mini-peek.  I have had some bad news today and I am trying to deal with it while working and prepping for M to head out the door again.  Somedays life just kicks your ass.  Today is one of those for me.  Here's to a better tomorrow.
